SSO Weather & Skies
Siding Spring offers some of darkest and cleanest skies in the world with up to 70% of usable nights a year.
The iTelescope Siding Spring Observatory is located within a 'Bortle' light pollution Class 1 zone. It has pristine skies with seeing averaging between 1.5 - 2.5 arc seconds.
The Gegenschein is visible & Zodiacal light is quite bright. The rising Milky Way confuses some into thinking dawn is approaching. The limiting visual magnitude is 7.6 to 8.0. The presence of Jupiter or Venus in the sky seems to degrade dark adaptation. Airglow (a very faint, naturally occurring glow most evident within about 15 degrees of the horizon) is readily apparent. Users of our large telescopes are very happy. This is a remote astronomer's Nirvana!
